A truck’s multi function switch works by completing an electrical circuit when pressed, then sending a signal to the window motor to raise or lower the glass via a window regulator. The direction of the switch’s movement (up or down) reverses the current’s polarity to the motor, which then spins in the opposite direction to move the window accordingly. Modern switches can also have “auto” features that fully open or close the window with a quick press.
